Herewith a set of instructions to get VIDA and VXDIAG up and running on a Windows 11 Pro OS
You should have a read through of my Windows 10 installation HERE before proceeding, to get an understanding of what is required there, as much the same is needed here, although there are differences. I may not cover old ground in detail, so you may need to switch between the two.
Note also that the vxdiag.net/wiki site can be useful as a guide
VX Manager xxx.exe (latest version, not the one on the DVD)
VXDIAG NANO OBD Port Connector Device (usb)
The Vida Repack2014D iso (unpacked to a folder)
The 2014A-B-D-2099.exe
dotnetfx.35.exe
A good 40GB+ of space for the databases
You may need to disable Realtime Virus and Tamper Protection on Windows 11, otherwise it will just wipe the VX Manager installation file.
Go to the VXDIAG website (translate to English/your language using your browsers tools) and find the latest copy of the VX Manager application. In my case it was
VX Manager 1.8.9.0601.exe. This was @ 70mb in size.
In Virus Protection again, make an exclusion for your VX Manager exe file.
Install VX Manager xxx.exe as Administrator (overcome any windows interference about it being a bad file)
During the installation you can select J2534-Passthru and Volvo Vida, do so.
When installation complete, do not run the software
Insert your VXDIAG usb to your computer, you will get beeps and flashing lights, then start VX Manager
On the Information screen click on Update Licence and do so. Then click on Firmware and update if offered.
On the Diagnostics screen, click on PassThru and Volvo in turn, and click on the buttons to install/update, and do so as required. In the Diagnostics screen both items should have green ticks on them.
You should be done, and not need to return to VX Manager again (although it does say licence for 60 days, so this may need to be renewed?)
Run dotnetfx35.exe as Administrator. Windows 11 should take over and install Windows Features. This can takes ages, and may stall, just Cancel and rerun, and eventually it will complete.
From the repack folder, run Scripts 1_SQL.cmd, 2_VIDA.cmd, 3_patch.cmd as Administrator, and in order! Wait for one to finish before starting another!
At some point you will see or be asked things:
Warning windows about needing Powershell 2, just close these and ignore
When asked select Vida All In One
When asked select Internet, Save and Close
Seems only language is Eng-US, so go with that.
Allow Java TM plaform if asked
After the three scripts have completed installation of VIDA, run the 2014A-B-D-2099.exe as Administrator (this seemed to have been covered by 3_patch.cmd, but no harm done by running again)
Eventually, the installation will be complete. You can reboot your computer.
Once you have your desktop back, look bottom right to the notifications area. If you do not see a VIDA icon, click on the hidden icons button, then drag the VIDA icon to the task bar. You will need to watch this icon for a while until you get a little green light on it. If so, your installation is up and running. (You can also hover your mouse over the icon, it will say VIDA stopped/starting/running)
Run VIDA ALLINONE by double clicking the icon on the desktop. This should open up the Edge browser with a VIDA login screen. You need to tell Edge to run VIDA in Internet Explorer Mode. This is essential to get the COMMUNICATION dialog to show up. To do this (see image below):
Open Settings
Select Default Browser
Set Allow sites to be reloaded... to Allow
Enter http://localhost/vida as an added page
Close Edge completely
Run VIDA ALLINONE, enter admin as user/pass, and hopefully you see the COMMUNICATION dialog and are able to select VXDIAG (you may need to plug in the device before you start this).
Try in the car!
You should now (if you want to) restore realtime and tamper protection (if they haven't already done it by themselves)
When looking at the schematic of the car with the modules on it, right click to get info
To erase a DTC, select the desired DTC then scroll the page down to the bottom, you should see an ERASE button
Default Browser settings for IE mode.
Note there is a 30 day expiry date on any added pages. You can run a script to be found here to extend the expiry period (indefinitely if wanted)
